The rumours have finally turned out to be true! Rashmika Mandanna has officially been confirmed to play legendary Carnatic vocalist and Bharat Ratna awardee M.S. Subbulakshmi in an upcoming biopic. The ambitious pan-India project is directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, known for films like Jersey and Kingdom, while Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music. The film is jointly produced by Allu Aravind, Rockline Venkatesh and Bunny Vas, with the makers planning to bring the extraordinary life and legacy of one of India’s most celebrated musicians to the big screen.
First Look Tomorrow at 5:15 PM
The makers have planned a grand launch at The Music Academy in Chennai on September 16, coinciding with M.S. Subbulakshmi’s 110th birth anniversary. Rashmika has already shared a glimpse from the project, where she appears in a traditional blue-green saree with a red border and jewellery, with her hand resting on a veena. The official title and first look are scheduled to be unveiled at 5:15 PM on September 16, while Kamal Haasan is set to attend the launch as chief guest.

This prestigious role comes at a time when Rashmika is enjoying an impressive run across industries. Her recent releases Animal, Pushpa 2: The Rule and Chhaava emerged as major commercial successes, collectively crossing massive box-office milestones. Animal and Pushpa 2 became huge pan-Indian blockbusters, while Chhaava went on to become another major success in Hindi cinema. With three massive successes behind her, Rashmika now takes on one of the most challenging and prestigious roles of her career as M.S. Subbulakshmi.
